Tomorrow I am officially, *officially* on vacation.. hooray! I feel like this has been a long time coming, esp. with how crazy insane work has been lately! & because I knew I wanted a 100% stress free work trip, I managed to finish about 85% of all my orders (I’m talking 200+ orders filled in about 5 days) and finalized a ton of branding and design projects. I’ve been stressed and working myself to the bone the last week, but I’m feeling pretty elated right now knowing that so much of my work has been taken care of. Even if I know this is only temporary bliss.. I’ll still take it. <3
Aside from that, I finally picked up a brand spanking new heatpress machine. I mean, this thing is ginormous and I don’t think I was fully prepared for it’s awesomeness. I’ve always been interested in heatpress and I’ve faked it a few times (you know, hardcore ironing skills), but I figured I would invest in something substantial while I could. So I stayed up one night, read a million reviews and comparisons and ended up on a machine that was roughly $500+. It’s not the best on the market but it’ll do for what I want. Needless to say, I kind of can’t stop playing with it… pictures below:
I use muslin bags for a lot of my packaging, and this was when the machine first came. I was trying to heatpress some little hearts inside the hearts… haha. Obviously this was just a test
Heatpressed my fav Rifle Paper Co. design into a tote – for personal use, not for resale. Hooray!
My shop is huge on bachelorette parties, and this was one of the reasons I wanted the press. These treat bags are so stinkin’ cute… I am so excited to sell my first batch!
And then I made a tote for my sister with her photography logo…
And then I found some sandals on sale for $1.25 at Joann’s and figured they were probably easily pressed.. and I was right! haha. I think I may end up pressing anything and everything around my house…
Anyone else as obsessive as I am? I get a new machine and I’m obsessed for a few weeks, and then it’s on to the next. Really hoping this won’t be the case here. Also can’t wait to print my first tshirts.. when I return from vacation!
Happy Sunday, loves!
Please excuse my absence – I’ve been out enjoying the sun! It has been breathtakingly beautiful here in Seattle. So excited for Spring now that it’s finally here.
Life and work has been great. Last night I went to an Entrepreneur event that my old company hosts every month, and to be honest, I found myself a little hesitant to go. It’s been about 3/4 months since I’ve seen everyone, and I knew there would be lots of small talk and questions about how I’m doing… how my business is doing… what I’m doing..
Surprisingly (which really shouldn’t even be a surprise), everyone was super supportive, no one even asked how my workload is cause they all assumed it’s going well, and I was even asked to quote several print projects. It’s funny how you can doubt yourself so much when you’re literally surrounded by nothing but support. And the truth is I don’t even know why there is any doubt – I’m doing this, legit doing it. Sometimes I’m so weird… haha.
Anyway, I designed this super cute Flower Girl card for one of my brides, & I loved the poem so much I’m actually going to list the card. For some reason I never think twice about listing the custom work I’ve done, even though I get so many questions about them.
See how amazing the sunshine is??
Life is good. & it’s Friday – which I (honestly) did not know. Working for yourself you just seem to lose track of the days..
It’s been almost a week since my last post, mostly due to the fact that I’ve just been swimming in shop-related things. A few updates below:
1) I finally contacted the shop that copied my dare cards (remember that?). The response wasn’t great… whatever. I guess you live and learn – in this case I’ve learned to be smarter about stating my copyrights.
2) Speaking of dare cards… a super fun bunch of girls bought a set and had what seemed like the best bachelorette party EVER. They posted tons of photos and my heart was overjoyed. A GREAT reminder of why I do what I do.
3) Taxes! Business taxes. Yikes. No one talks to you about this when you launch your million dollar ideas, and as my shop continues to grow, the taxes continue to increase. 2013 was an amazing year, and my taxes proved it. I’m also a little poor right now… haha
4) Passion. The more and more I delve into this self-employment thing, the more I’m realizing what sets people/ companies/ products apart. There are so many products/ items that are similar in design language, style, color, etc and the best thing I can do for myself is SHOW MY PASSION. Do work with intentions and meaning. This takes me to a handwritten piece I recently did…
This piece means SO much to me because it is so personal. These are the things I should be selling.
Other than all of that, it’s just business as usual around here. I’m beginning to feel like I need more social interaction now that I work from home and am very aware of how much I do NOT speak to anyone all day…. lol. #firstworldproblems
Happy Monday, friends!
Alright.. so it’s definitely been a little while since I’m posted anything here. The truth is that I had a full-on tutorial written for my DIY wire tassels, only to have that post magically disappear (did I hit save, doesn’t it autosave?, who knows anymore). I attempted to rewrite the entire post which was LONNGGG, but have since avoided this blog like the plague because of it. I’ll get the tutorial up… eventually.
Outside of that, it’s business taxes season (due in about 7 days to be exact) so I’m a little overwhelmed. And the monotony of being in my home office by myself with just my two dogs – who do not have conversations with me, haha – was starting to get old, so here I am, sitting at a Barnes & Noble, finally updating my blog.
The last week was filled with lots of design work and attempts to create new product. I am such a perfectionist when it comes to new products in my shop, but when it comes to designing product/ items for family & friends – the inspiration just comes to me. And I always end up loving the work that I’ve created for them.
That’s the funny thing about designing – I can spend 10 hours on a piece for my shop that I only semi-like, only to LOVE something that I’ve created for a friend, which only took 30 minutes to create.
Needless to say, I think I’m in my head too much. Comparing and not enjoying. If only I could do design projects for friends all my life… haha
PS – the ‘Let’s Celebrate’ is also handwritten and then digitized – something I have the hardest time doing when it comes to my shop. It just never feels right…
I am so excited to sneak peak this, but new Gold Tinsel pencil sets have officially hit the shop! These were so fun to create and feel SO fitting for where I’m at in my life, and I’m sure others will appreciate them just as much as I do.
The first set was inspired by my best friend. She’s about as un-traditional as they get – making a living as a YouTube cook. I call this set “I’m a #Bosslady“.
The next set is for all of the amazing people and shop owners I’ve met through this crazy world of blogging and social media. What better product name than “Today was a Good Day”
And lastly – a super fun thing I’ll be adding with all of my shop items – a #goldtinsel golf pencil.
Happy Monday! <3
